UPDATE: Happy Hour Run 1/17
Hi everyone!
We cannot wait to see you tonight, and in the interest of keeping everyone’s safety first we have a couple modifications on the run. There will be NO speed work at tonight’s run, it is very icy and we want to keep everyone safe, strong and healthy. Tonight’s run will be an easy run, as our HH runs typically are, with an extra emphasis on patient and diligent running to ensure everyone stays safe on the ice.
We will modify the route to run directly from The Whitney to The Broadway, and we will still have a happy hour afterwards! If you don’t feel comfortable running in these conditions, please come join us at the Broadway at ~7:30p and hang out!
Please be mindful of the ice throughout the run and communicate with your fellow runners to help them avoid it too. Another modification we will make with this ice in mind is we will do a brief group dynamic warm up before getting started to reduce risk of injury should someone fall during the run.
It is also a little chilly tonight so please wear lots of layers and if these conditions just aren’t your vibe today know you’re more than welcome to join us at The Broadway for the happy hour minus the run!
If you’re new to running in wintry/icy conditions, we’ve included some tips from Chicago city lead
below as well!
1. Small steps/a shuffle are best for running on ice! Running on ice requires a lot of awareness of where your center of gravity is
2. Run in groups of two and space out a little to allow for everyone to see icy patches more clearly
3. Communicate ice patches with the people behind you by calling them out and raising a hand
4. Run in the street where possible and safe, as they’ve been salted better than sidewalks will be!
If you have any questions or concerns at all don’t hesitate to comment here or message Delaney and I directly!
All the best,
Delaney and Dan
