HM training in 7 wks...stupid or doable?

Hi folks, I'm thinking about signing up for the rock & roll half in DC on 3/16. That obviously leaves me not a lot of weeks for actual training (7 from this weekend), but I'd more use it as a fun way to start the season and motivation to keep running in the cold. I'd say my base is not where it needs to be to do it safely and without injury but also isn't supremely far off, so my question is: is this a stupid idea and I should wait for cherry blossom 10 miler a month later per originally planned, or try a modified plan? And secondarily, any recommendations or places to find a decent modified plan?
