Altitude , Cross Training, and Peak Week
Hi! I am currently training for my first marathon (NY! 🤩) with the 20-Week L1 plan. I have next week scheduled as a Peak Week - I was going to do 30 total miles and 16 for the long run.
However, I am going to Colorado Springs for the weekend. The city is at 6,000 ft of elevation which usually affects me a decent bit coming from FL. Does anyone have recommendations for adjusting my training? I could fit in 3 training runs before I leave to avoid too much running at elevation.
Also, I will be doing an 8 mile hike with 3,000 ft of elevation gain (~10k base to 13k). I am not sure how to adjust my week (and specifically my long run) to account for this. I want to hit the necessary running miles but also don’t want to overdo it! Would this hike take the place of my long run? Should I do 16 this weekend instead of 14 to make sure I get that distance in? Any advice is appreciated!!
Thank you!! 💙⚡️
