Reoccurring ankle sprain

Hi everyone!

Over the past 2 and a half years, I have sprained my right ankle 13 times and my left ankle 3 times the last 4 months all from playing basketball.

I started taking ankle problems seriously after 6-7 sprains by doing pt exercises(resistance bands stretch, balance ball, variations of calf raises etc) and wearing ankle braces every time I play. Recently sprained my right ankle again playing basketball when I stepped on someone’s foot. The sprains were never bad and the pain usually go away pretty quick and I would get back to basketball after doing 4-6 weeks of ankle rehab. But once in a while I would roll my ankle again out of nowhere.

I have no trouble walking or running, but it’s a bit tough when I’m doing sharp change in directions, where I need an ankle brace. But again, I would roll my ankle out of nowhere when I’m playing basketball.

I have been to a doctor and he found the ligaments are a bit loose from all the sprains. Surgery would definitely fix it by tightening it up but obviously there are other risks involved. So I am wondering if PT would still help in this situation or if anyone has done such surgery.

Thanks!
