Knee pain with a large bump under knee
Hello!
I have had a large, almost like a second knee cap, since my childhood. I remember it bothering me a little bit when I was younger, a doctor told me that it was likely an extra bone of some sorts that provided extra support since I was highly highly active. It has not bothered me since, up until maybe a week ago.
I have not added or done any new strenuous activities that would cause this flare up. I do work long hours on my feet, with a single shift reaching up to 15-16 hours with no sitting breaks (unless I go to the bathroom). However, that is not new and I have been working like this for years now and have felt nothing out of the ordinary like this knee pain I am experiencing now. On top of working, I have been running for quite some time now and not had any problems even at higher mileages.
I ran a few times last week and I was able to run the entire time without it bothering me, until I stopped or hours later. With the marathon program starting this week, I began to feel some discomfort while running yesterday and decided not to push it. I have an appointment on June 8th with a new ortho, but in the mean time I'm trying to find ways to relieve the pain or any exercises that might help. TIA for any input, I am anxious to get out there and run more!
