Shin splints / lower calve pain

Hey! This is definitely probably a rookie problem and I could just need to rest. But I have recently been able to gain mileage during my runs but within the past week I’ve been having pain on my lower leg area. It’s a dull pain and really only when I run or put pressure on my legs. My left leg is a little more sore than my right. Have been pretty sore the past couple days to the point I can’t get past a mile.

A bummer because I was making really good progress. (Probably was pushing myself a little too hard) But hopefully will be back at it soon. Any tips on recovery, pain management and exercises in the mean time during this rest period?
