Kathleen, 31, and I live in East falls/Philly. Like a lot of people I started running in the pandemic. It wasn’t only due to gym closures although I did find a more intense love for functional and outdoor movement that I’m grateful for.
After losing my father in summer 2020, I found running and hiking to be very therapeutic. Specifically trail running early in the morning. Something about the containment and safety of trees and welcoming release of open spaces and sunrise gleaming through it all…pretty much top of my runner’s high/transcendence.
I’m getting woo woo here - I simply run for general health, fun and release. I have never tracked anything and made any hard goals for myself 🙃 Furthest I’ll run around is east falls into the city - SRT river park area / south street bridge and loop back. I love water, sunrises and sunsets. My favorite running spots are along the River trail, Wissahickon, trails and beach anytime I go home to NJ.
While I’ve enjoyed running mostly on my own I’m looking to explore more, meet more running friends and read advice here in this community. I haven’t run as much through the city either since it’s always intimidated me. Hoping to join a group run when weather/timing permits and learn more from everyone here! Perhaps I can be influenced to track things and sign up for races in the future. I have pretty good endurance but would say picking up the pace / incorporating speed work is something I’d like to get better at. So encouraging to read the posts here already!
