Foot injury :(

Hi there! Like it says in the title, I recently picked up a foot injury. I know the cause – I stupidly ramped up mileage super quickly, riding the newbie high – but am a bit stumped about what it is and what I can do about it. I’m hoping to go see a doctor soon, but will be away from home for the next week or so and it’ll have to wait. The injury came on pretty suddenly last Thursday after a week of way too many miles.

The pain is centered on the outside of the bottom of my left foot. It runs along the outside from my mid-foot to the ball of my foot, and hurts when I step or move my foot/ankle in certain ways. I’m also noticing some occasional clicking (?)/weird feelings where the pain is. Plantar fasciitis is everywhere on Google, but my pain is on the outside of my foot and not in my heel.

I’ve been stretching my calves and feet, doing some calf raises/toe exercises, and rolling my foot on a tennis ball. No running, of course, and the pain tends to be worst right out of bed when I stand up. It tends to ease up as I walk throughout the day, usually.

My priorities are full, long term recovery and preventing this from becoming a long term issue. Of course I’d like to get back to running ASAP, but I know patience is key here.

Does anyone have any insight here? Any possible diagnoses/known problems, or remedies before I can see a doctor? Trying not to panic too much now, but it’s tough not to!
