Track 101
Thanks to everyone who joined tonight’s HH run, I hope you guys enjoyed a little introduction to track workouts. I compiled the list of all the tracks in Boston and some intro workouts:
Roberto Clemente Field (Fenway) - So, this track is slightly long, it’s like 420m. However, they put markers down on the track to help you know where to start. The mile marker is around the curve so it’s 3 3/4 laps….idk. BUT it is a public track so it is always open and there are lights at night
MIT Steinbrenner (Cambridge) - I love this track, there’s a water fountain, bathrooms, it’s a gorgeous 8 lane track. Since MIT owns it, with school starting back up, I’m sure school sports are going to have priority
Madison Park HS Athletic Fields (Roxbury Crossing)
Saunders Stadium in Moakley Park (Southie)
Harry Downes Field (Jamaica Plain)
Danehy Park (Near Fresh Pond in Cambridge)
Unsure about (I personally haven’t been to any of these so I can’t speak on them but they’re in the area):
BC High Stadium (Dorchester)
Harvard’s McCurdy Outdoor Track (Harvard, Allston)
East Boston Memorial Park (East Boston)
As for very basic workouts, here’s a couple in mind minus warmup and cooldown, google is also your best friend or you can text me for advice:
Mile repeats @ 10k pace (or ~20-30 secs faster than half pace) with 2-3 mins standing rest
4-8 x 400m or 800m repeats @ 80% effort with 400m jog rest
Ladder workout (200,400,800,1k,800,400,200) @ hard effort with half a lap recovery
In terms of group track workouts, heartbreakers have theirs Tuesdays at 630AM at MIT, Tracksmith has theirs Wednesday at 630PM with rotating locations, and we might start having some as well!
This was a lot, comment if you have any questions and thanks for being open to learning, hopefully my explanations made sense and were helpful!
