Pacing for half marathon
I’ve been running in Austin doing 25-30 miles a week on average. I finished my long run of 20 miles at 10:30 pace about a week ago and I’m currently tapering.
It may sound odd but I have no clue on how to pace my half marathon.. a lot of factors are different mainly the temperature but also the elevation. Austin Texas and Patagonia Chile are in completely different seasons so I’m used to 100+ degrees and here it’s more like 40-50 degrees plus wind.
Majority of my runs have been at a 9:30 to 10:30 pace and an average of 8 miles per run and HR of 130-140 bpm. Most of these runs have felt chill and relaxed and I haven’t done any speed work.
So my question is should I target my pace based on how I feel? Heart rate? Or is there a more scientific way to do it accounting for the temperature difference that may have been slowing down my runs in Austin?
