Should I defer?
Hi guys! I am registered for the Philly Marathon on Nov 20th and this will be my second marathon. I ran Philly last year and finished around 4:10. I was feeling great about this race but I sadly sprained my ankle mid-July. I spent 10 weeks in physical therapy, running short distances and slowly started building up running again. Since end of September, I’ve been running 35-40 miles per week with no ankle pain. All of a sudden I’m sore everywhere else and not my ankle (shin splints, hamstrings) which I suspect is due to increasing my mileage too fast. I have only gone up to 16 miles 2 weeks ago and I feel I am too sore to try to push farther than 16 this weekend. My goal was to break 4 hours this year but now I’m doubting if it is even possible to finish the marathon with my longest run only being 16 miles this training block (this took me 2hrs and 20minutes). Should I attempt or defer? Any opinions appreciated.
